Workshop Details | The Photo book Project with Quinton GORDON

5 sessions, Wednesday May-30, June-6, 13, 20 & 27, 2012

6:30pm - 9:00pm
Workshop Fee: $195.00 + materials, if required.

This course will be held at Lúz Gallery.
Course Level - L2 + (skill level details) *see pre-requistes below

This workshop is ideally suited for photographers who have an existing photo based project or image collection that they would like to see in book form. Our emphasis will be on the editing, sequencing, design, and construction of a photobook for either a limited edition handmade book or print on demand books such as one published through Blurb.

During the workshop we will also examine the history of contemporary book design, the various production options available and how to budget for production costs, as well as the world of self-publishing and marketing for photography books.

Participants should come prepared with a body of approximately 50 to  100 images depending on the nature of their project. In some cases you may require fewer images, and in other possibly more. From this collection we will begin to edit and sequence your book.

Each photographer will make a mock-up of their book to better understand the implications of design, layout, image relationships, and construction requirements prior to final production of their book.

WAIT LIST
Enrolment limited to 8 participants.
FULL -- PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE WAIT LIST

Prerequisites:
Participants who intend to produce a handmade book need to have previous binding experience. For those planning to work on a print-on-demand book no previous experience with this process is required.

Image Requirements: You will need to have your images in both print and electronic form. Prints of all your images should be inexpensive 4x6 proof prints of all your images that we can use for the purposes of editing and rough sequencing. Electronic image files should have sufficient quality and resolution to make prints that will easily cover the largest size requirement in your book. For example if you are making an 8x10 book and want to lay an image across the double page spread you need a file that will print at 21 inches wide at 300dpi or 360dpi.

Materials: The fee for this class does not include any material costs and each participant will be responsible for the production costs of their proof-prints, materials and expenses for book mock-ups, and all final book production costs. For those making a handmade book, you will require the same tool kit that you assembled for the Intro and Intermediate Bookbinding courses.

Pre-Registration Consultation: If you have any questions about this course or the suitability of your project we encourage you to contact us to speak with Quinton prior to registration so he can assist you in making the best choices in preperation for the class.
