Diana Millar
Diana Millar co-founded Lúz Gallery in September 2009 along with her partner, photographer Quinton Gordon. Millar has an extensive background in art history and brings her years of professional experience in the arts, event management, and marketing to Lúz. Early in her academic career she enrolled at the University of Victoria to pursue a degree in Art History but in the end she graduated with distinction earning a BSc in Psychology. After a brief period of graduate studies in Kingston, Ontario - Neurology/ABI (acquired brain injury) - Millar returned to Victoria to plant her roots and change careers. Establishing Lúz Gallery has allowed her to work with both emerging and established photographic artists.
At Lúz Gallery I work directly with artists and clients to build strong relationships between the interests of collectors and the work we represent. In our first year, we have worked to help establish the careers of several emerging artists and in many cases these efforts have resulted in the publication of their first book, or the awarding of significant grants and prestigious awards including Devin Tepleski being named one of the eight winners of the 2011 Hearst Biennial. As a relative new comer to the world of photography I am able to maintain an open mind but I have also had the benefit of working with many well established photographers, such as Michael Levin, Donald Weber, Vikky Alexander and Eric Klemm, who have helped to accelerate my education.
She recently attended the PhotoLucida portfolio reviews, in March 2011. In the future, she will be a reviewer at FotoFest in March 2012, as well she will be a juror for Critical Mass 2011.
