Captivating, soulful, and strikingly evocative, Michael Levin's photographs have captured international attention in recent years, earning widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards including "Fine Art Photographer of the Year" at the 2007 Prix de la Photographie in Paris.
Levin, who has been heralded as one of the "rising stars in the world of photography," uses long exposures and an intimate understanding of light to unearth the beauty behind the everyday. His black-and-white photographs, rich in tone and texture, reveal a landscape both familiar and dreamlike, where the simple geometry of shorelines, industrial spaces, and other landscapes takes on a totemic significance.
Based in Vancouver, BC, Levin travels extensively to capture his meticulously crafted images. The exhibit at Lúz, which runs from June 17 to July 24, will include 17 selections from the artist's current body of work as well as previously unpublished limited edition version of his sold-out book, Zebrato.
Zebrato, limited edition | While the first printing of ZEBRATO is now sold out and no longer available, Michael Levin is pleased to announce two limited edition versions of ZEBRATO.
Deluxe Edition of ZEBRATO is published by Michael Levin from the original monograph. Designed and hand-bound by Jace Graf of Cloverleaf Editions in Austin, Texas, the Deluxe Edition features a cover made from blue Japanese bookcloth with the title and author’s name debossed in silver foil. Measuring 12” x 12”, the Deluxe Edition is limited to 75 signed and numbered copies. Each book includes an exclusive 7” x 7” archival pigment print of Zebrato signed and numbered in pencil by Michael Levin “au verso”.
Collector’s Edition of ZEBRATO is published by Michael Levin from the original monograph. Designed and hand-bound by Jace Graf of Cloverleaf Editions in Austin, Texas, the Collector’s Edition features a white linen cover with the title and author’s name debossed in silver foil. The book is enclosed in a custom-designed slipcase made from heather grey linen. The Collector’s Edition is limited to 26 copies, lettered A through Z, and signed by Michael Levin.
The Collector’s Edition includes a unique 7”x7” platinum/palladium print, selected from among a choice of 4 different titles, and produced by Michael Levin working in concert with a master printmaker. The unique chemistry of the platinum/palladium process allows for the richest tonal composition, the most delicate details and the highest archival standard.
