 | Lis Bailly

7-April  to 6-May, 2011

Lis Bailly has been active in the Victoria art and design community since 1976.  Her experience covers a broad spectrum of creative design disciplines.

Born and raised in St. Catharines, her education includes a BA in Fine Art from Guelph University and studies at Concordia University.  She is also an honorary graduate of the Victoria College of Art.

Bailly has worked as a freelance graphic designer for several agencies including The Malahat Group/Palmer Jarvis Communications. Her design consulting company, Portfolio Art Services, focuses on branding, strategic communications, and design for print and web.

Bailly’s professional design projects have always co-existed with personal creative pursuits.  Her paintings, watercolours, prints and pastel drawings have been exhibited and collected in Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.

Bailly’s most recent work converges painterly approaches with digital image making. New Horizons is a series of subtly detailed and richly coloured images that are informed by landscape.

“Our gaze returns again and again to the simple line of the horizon that celebrates the transition between earth, air, water and the fire of sunrise and sunset.  As light and colour constantly change, we are still and fully engaged in the moment.”  — Lis Bailly
