December 30th 2010 marked the end of an era in colour photography. On this date, Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas - the last lab in the world to process Kodachrome film - discontinued processing services for the film that Kodak introduced in 1935.

Used to make some of the most iconic images of our time, Kodak’s Kodachrome film was revered by many of the world’s great photographers for its unprecedented ability to reproduce true colour, setting the standard in colour photography for more then forty years.

Developed as a fundraiser for the Greater Victoria Art Gallery, in conjunction with Art In Bloom 2011, Bruce Wilkin Design, D’Ambroso Architecture, and Lúz Gallery have co-sponsored Kodachrome In Bloom

This collaborative exhibition commissioned 12 photographers to respond to an open “botanical” theme.  Three rolls of Kodachrome were used, affording each photographer nine frames. The exposed film was shipped to Dwayne’s in mid-December for processing, just two weeks prior to the deadline.

Twelve unique Ilfochrome/ Cibachrome prints produced by Cibalab in California will be mounted in a
one-week exhibition and silent auction at Lúz Gallery.

This will be your chance to own an original piece of art, as each print is an original, and will be sold with the negative.

Exhibiting Photographers:

Dave Aharonian, Franc D’Ambrosio, David Ellingsen, Quinton Gordon, Gerald Hogrefe, Karen Iwachow, Liz Rubincam, Big Tiny Smalls, Allan Mandell, Jim Mckenna, Mike McLean, and Bruce Wilkin

Silent Auction | Thank you we raised $3095.00

All funds will be donated to the AGGV in support of the Children’s Art Studio programs.
