Workshop Details 
Printmaking with Lorraine Douglas & Susan Underwood

3 days:
Thursday March 15 - Saturday March 17, 2012

2 Sessions:
8-12 years old  / 9:30am - 12:30pm 
13-16 years old / 1:30pm - 4:30pm 

Fee - $165.00 
*plus a materials fee $25.00

Location - Lúz Studio, 1844 Oak Bay Ave.
*open to all abilities, limited to 8 students per session. 

We will turn Lúz into a working print studio, complete with an old Praga Press!

Join printmakers, Lorraine Douglas & Susan Underwood as they take kids through a variety of printmaking techniques to create personal collections of themed prints. As well, each student will make a hand printed book or portfolio in which to store the collection created during the workshops. All workshops will be hands-on!

Direct Print

The morning session (8-12 year olds) will learn processes such as direct printing, chine colle, collographs, stencils, and relief printing.

The afternoon session (13-16 year olds) will create monoprints from hand-cut stencils and build collaged printing plates to be used for editions of prints.

Non-toxic printmaking materials will be used throughout the workshop. We will also be working with a traditional printing press to make the prints in each session.

Gallery Reception :: Celebration of the Arts

At the end of our two week Spring Break program, all students are invited partcipate in a collective gallery exhibition and open house featuring so that family & friends can enjoy an opportunity so see all the wonderful projects created in the workshops! Mark Sat March-24 on your calendar, more details to follow!


 

INSTRUCTOR | About Lorraine Douglas

Lorraine has taught art classes and workshops since 1984 and worked as a teacher and a children’s librarian.  She loves creating monotypes, water media and collage, book sculptures and calligraphic art. She has exhibited since 1990 and her work has been chosen for juried shows and solo exhibitions in Canada and Japan including Art of the Book. Lorraine is a graduate of the Universities of Alberta and Manitoba and received her Certificate in Visual Arts from the Vancouver Island School of Art in 2009.

 

 


INSTRUCTOR | about Susan Underwood
 
Relief print

Susan loves sharing her enthusiasm for printmaking with children and young adults. In her career as an educator she has taught primary, middle, secondary, and university level students. Her prints have been shown in the Sooke Fine Arts show, the Victoria Art Gallery, and annual shows of Ground Zero Printmakers Society and Xchanges Artists' Gallery and Studios. Susan has a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University and a Masters of Arts from University of Victoria.

Lorraine and Susan are partners in the Cecelia Press Printmaking Studio in Victoria, BC.
