Storytelling should be fun.

That's the guiding principle Mixed Media Artist Diana Durrand and Author Craig Spence bring to their Story Building Workshops. Using photography, video, clay modeling, creative play and a touch of theatre they will guide participants through a process that draws out the four fundamental storytelling elements: Setting, Character, Plot and Structure. But 'Shhh!' those words won't be said out loud during three-days of engaging in Story Building activity at the Lúz Gallery, which will result in an illustrated story book.

Children naturally tell stories when they are playing. Story Building workshops zoom in on that spontaneous imaginative activity. The objective is to maintain a high level of hands-on fun while identifying and developing scenes, characters and plot-points from the participants' own stories. Participants will be encouraged to take their ideas 'seriously' and explore them more deeply by talking about them, illustrating them, organizing them photographing them and finally publishing them.

The class will collectively publish a 7"x7" soft cover book through Blurb Books.
The materials fee covers the cost to produce & print a copy for each child to take home.
After the workshop, additional books will be available to purchase online through Blurb Books.
