This 4 hour, 2 session workshop offers participants the benefits of learning traditional darkroom techniques in a very personal environment. Working in our custom darkroom and limited to just 2 students per workshop you will learn how to process your film and make traditional contact sheets. We will discuss and practice safe darkroom procedures including mixing and handling chemicals, safe disposal and cleanup as well as talk about editing and archiving your work.

This darkroom has been setup for printing both silver and platinum with a black light UV exposure box that will handle 16x20 inch paper, 4x5 enlarger, and archival print washers. It is very comfortable in there with a good layout for workflow and proper ventilation.
Learning Objectives
- Mixing and preparing chemistry for film development.
- Basic film development techniques for B&W film.
- Establishing standard contact printing time, for making contact sheets.
- Mixing and preparing chemistry for printing contact sheets.
- Editing and archiving negatives and contact sheets.
What To Bring
- Participants are required to bring 2 exposed rolls of B&W film. Both films should be the same make and speed so that they can be processed together. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about selecting and using B&W film.
- Notebook & pencil (it's great to keep 'printing notes' so you can look back on exposure times etc...)
- Please wear clothes that are suitable for working with chemistry, as well as an apron, or smock.
- All darkroom chemistry & materials for the workshop are provided.
