Workshop Details | Hand Coloured Photos with Diana Durrand
10:00am - 4:00pm
$145.00 ($125 Workshop Fee + $20 *Print & Materials Fee)
This course will be held at Lúz Gallery, 1844 Oak Bay Ave.
Course Level - L1 + (skill level details)
Participants will come away from this workshop with a basic knowledge of hand colouring using pastels. They will be able to apply and further develop these techniques on their own, and by attending future sessions. The techniques do not require art training and can be adapted to a wide range of subjects and styles. Hand colouring using pastels is not the same as ‘hand-tinting’ photos.
After an overview and introduction to the properties of chalk pastels, participants will be taught how to create a workable ground on a provided sample, experimenting with the techniques that have been demonstrated by Diana. Fixatives and chalk pastels will be provided. Once the warm-up is completed, participants will apply their learned skills to black and white copies of their own images. They will be asked to bring three to four original photographs to the session. These will be reproduced and enlarged in black and white on archival quality paper for hand colouring. The workshop will be conducted in ‘open studio’ format to maximize sharing and exploring as a group.
