There was a lot happening at Lúz this weekend.

We kicked off the weekend with a seminar on digital inkjet printing, and yeasterday had our Learn To Make A Hardcover Book class and The Daylight Studio running. Stay tuned for more photos from both workshops but here is a quick peek and some from the day.

What is the purpose of this fundraiser?

• HARDBOUND EDITION: The intention here is to create a hardcover edition of our 2012 annual.  The edition will be ad free around 96 pages, full color offset, hardbound with dust jacket.   

• THE DELUXE EDITION WITH PRINTS: Our four featured artists have graciously donated limited edition prints specifically for this project. The Deluxe Edition will include the hardbound edition coupled with four 8"x10" prints from each of our featured artists — nicely packaged in an archival box. The limited edition prints are signed and numbered by Jennifer B. Hudson, John Chervinsky, Leah McDonald, and Jim Leisy. See image details below.

The DWP was founded by Kane Ryan with “just a small amount of money and the desire to do something instead of nothing...”

Through his efforts, Kane has realized that he can make a real difference for the people living in the slums of Mumbai. His projects include building a school, ‘slum beautification’ projects & recently building “Girls Can Be”, a women’s centre where women can work in a clean & safe environment. Please help to support the DWP with a purchase of a beautiful print or donation >> Details

This will be a new collection of photographs taken over the last 6 months in Mumbai, India. Come down and have a look into the lives of the Saki Naka slum, the community DWP has called home over the last few years.

DWP's Kane, Cindy and Todd, will be on hand, plus many of the DWP volunteers who had the opportunity to be a part of the Saki Naka community in Mumbai, India. We hope you will join us on Thursday night and support this incredible project. 

Indian appetizers are being prepared from recipes brought back from the women of the community along with amazing craft beer by brewmaster  Sean Hoyne. Sean recently opened Hoyne Brewing and generously donated the beer for opening night!

DWP and Kane are headed back to Mumbai, India in less than a few weeks to continue work on existing projects, continuing to better the lives of the thousands of people in Saki Naka (Mumbai) who live in one of the most densely populated cities on earth. 

The first 10 people at the show will receive a free DWP calendar!

Published under Paul's, Studio Centralé Press. Each copy is laser printed & hand assembled, or as Paul says "literally in my house." The images were captured during a short visit to San Francisco in 2010, with his Holga. 

There's a familiarity in the images, that made me immediately like it. I'll spend a little more time with my copy this weekend (it's been a little busy here, with the Kids Photo Break running all week - phew!). But I think it's a great little zine to add to your collection, stop in and pick up your copy this weekend!

So we listened and we also condensed the format to a one-day 3-hour workshop to start you learning the basics of sewing + stitching your own books.
